Alan Bickers is a Consultant in the fields of strategic planning, management, governance, policy development, project strategy, planning, procurement and implementation, and alternative dispute resolution. He has been in private practice since 1995.

 

Alan is a civil engineer by profession with post graduate management training from the Universities of Canberra and Oxford. He has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies at Massey University majoring in dispute resolution. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand and a Fellow of the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute NZ, NZ Institute of Management and the Institute of Directors (NZ) and other professional bodies.

 

Prior to establishing in private practice, Alan had a distinguished career in engineering and management covering 25 years in local government.

 

Alan is widely known in the Engineering Profession as a Past President and Distinguished Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ). His citation states “Throughout his career, Alan has exhibited an extraordinary ability to manage and control complex systems and processes.” He received the IPENZ Professional Commitment award in 1996. He was awarded the Sir Ronald Davidson prize by the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute NZ in 2009.

 

Alan has held a number of important governance roles including his appointment to the Board of Transit New Zealand in 1997. He served as Chairman from 2000 until 2004.
