Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is an alternative means of resolving a wide range of commercial and other disputes rather than resorting to litigation through the Courts.
Alan Bickers provides independent services in alternative dispute resolution (mediation, conciliation, expert review, adjudication and arbitration). Alan has a growing practice in alternative dispute resolution, particularly those involving engineering, building and construction, and local government matters, where his extensive industry/sector experience is an important attribute.
He has completed the Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (Dispute Resolution) at Massey University majoring in arbitration and is an Associate of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute. He was awarded the Brookers’ Prize in Arbitration in 2005.
Alan is a Fellow of the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of New Zealand and was awarded the Sir Ronald Davidson Prize in 2009.
He is a skilled facilitator of group sessions and is also used as a conciliator/mediator to resolve disputes between parties and develop “partnering” relationships.
Alan is widely known in the Engineering Profession as a Past President and Distinguished Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand. His citation states “Throughout his career, Alan has exhibited an extraordinary ability to manage and control complex systems and processes.”
Alan is an accredited member of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute’s list of Environmental Mediators for environmental disputes where he is able to apply his skills and extensive experience in local government, resource management and urban development.
